Now celebrating its 20th anniversary, Zinc Details is an independently owned showroom, gallery, modern design authority and essential resource for the San Francisco creative community.

Founded 20 years ago by Vasilios "Vas" Kiniris and his wife Wendy Nishimura Kiniris, Zinc Details assembles an exuberant mix of art, design and craft that is expertly curated from sources around the globe. With an ever-changing array of new products, this unique collection brings together brand names like Knoll, Herman Miller and Vitra with work by emerging talents and local Bay Area artists. Presenting playful groupings of furnishings, accessories and art, Zinc Details encourages visitors to make modern design a part of their lives and lifestyles.

A creative laboratory meant to inspire people from all walks of life, Zinc Details accentuates its savvy furnishings collection with a active event calendar. In addition to showing artists such as Rex Ray, Petit Collage and Pablo Design, the store's events promote lively dialogue and have included print screening and lomography camera workshops, lectures, conversations with artists and wine and chocolate tastings.

Throughout its 20 years, Zinc Details has provided its customers with a distinct sense of hospitality, personality and place. The charming Pacific Heights location is an important draw for visitors, and the loyal neighborhood clientele remain a vital part of the store's longevity.

"We've been successful because we do a lot more than sell furniture and home accessories—we are in the marketplace of ideas,” Vas says. “We're also a gathering place for those working in, or holding a passionate interest in design for everyday living."

A galvanizing creative force, Zinc Details takes its name from the ancient element that was integral to the production of alchemy during the middle ages. A magical sense of wonder and discovery is what keeps visitors returning to the space. "Zinc is a great material because it looks good when it's new, ages beautifully and lasts forever, too," Vas says. "Just like Zinc Details."
