About
Writing Ourselves Whole groups use transformative writing practice in community to restore individual trauma experience and reconnect those parts of ourselves we are trained to hide. Through writing together and offering one another deep generosity and kind witness, we find language for what was never meant to be spoken, and create beauty from the "unspeakable" stuff of our lives.
We believe in the power of the story, the joy of writing, the depth of human creative resilience, and the power of the community to hold, witness and celebrate the stories that we have been told are unspeakable. And we believe – particularly for survivors of trauma – in the liberatory uses of writing our desire.
Current writing groups include Write Whole: Survivors Write, Writing the Flood (general-topic writing group), Dive Deep (advanced, manuscript-focused group), and Declaring Our Erotic.
All writing groups are facilitated by Jen Cross, MA-TLA. Based in Oakland, CA, Jen has worked with trauma survivors for more than fifteen years, and, as a trauma survivor herself, has used writing practice (both alone and in community) to transform and heal many aspects of her life. Jen writes to release, transform, and create space for as much un-articulated experience as possible, and has come to believe strongly in the potential of written and shared story to heal us, individually and collectively.
