Description
Wrapped Up in the Cloud is an installation by Amelia Konow that reflects on the sublime cosmological landscape of the sky. For five years, Konow has been photographing skyscapes to mirror her subjective states of daydreaming and transcendence. Fascinated by Alfred Stieglitz's theory of equivalence, where a photograph communicates the artist's emotion to the viewer, Konow repeats the gesture of photographing the sky with her iPhone—accumulating thousands of 4x6 prints—combining the individual photographs into an abstract, expansive montage. The resulting immersive installation beckons the viewer into a meditative state, accessing the vastness of the sky in a defined setting within the walls of the gallery. The work is a means for Konow to reexamine her connection with technology, and to consider how it informs her practice.
