The Kurdistan Region comprises the three northern-most provinces of Iraq. With its own regional government, presidency, and parliament, who are the Kurds and how is Kurdistan’s legislative institutions and executive authority working to promote political freedom and encourage civil society to play a greater role in expanding democracy? Also, what is the state of this region’s relationship with Baghdad, as well as its neighbors, the US and rest of the international community? Qubad Talabani joins the Council to offer behind-the-scenes insight into the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, as well as Iraq and the future role for the US in this region. Talabani will also detail the relationship and friendship between the Kurds and the United States and why the new democracy in the Kurdistan Region is a triumph for American vision and long-term interests for this part of the globe.Advance registration is recommended for guaranteed seating. However, pre-registration is not required and walk-ins on the day of this program are welcome.
