In 1994, Quetzalcoatl appeared in the dead of night at the south end of Plaza de Cesar E. Chavez. The "artiste" was Robert Graham - world-renowned sculptor married to Angelica Huston. Graham was asked about the composite-cement material, which tends to obscure detail, and the chunky "snow-man" shape. His replay was, "That's how a plumed serpent looks." He was not queried about the strange cracks and fissures which cover the sculpture, or about the two-tone color scheme. |
