A life-size wood statue slot-machine of infamous outlaw Tiburcio Vasquez stands prominently in WAVES Saloon. Tokens are available to operate the automaton . . . just pull down the gun hand. The statue was carved by Richard deLong of Pennsylvania - one of the finest wood sculptors in America. Some years back, during the Fenerin years, a restoration of 65 Post St. yielded a number of Bitters bottles among the detritus of yesteryear. Marketing of Bitters commenced in the early 1800's when the guvment started imposing a tax on liquor. Bitters was ostensibly "medicine" and therefore circumvented the liquor tax. The intoxicating effects were the same. |
