The following description of Cooper's
works is from a catalog of an exhibit of his work at the Triton
Museum in Santa Clara, ". . . Cooper's paintings also captured
the vastness of the North American landscape and its then untouched
beauty, preserved by the Indians who lived in harmony with nature."
Well, It's pretty darn easy to be
in harmony with nature if you don't have internal combustion
engines. I hardly think we can give credit to the Indians for
the unspoiled landscapes. If they had dune-buggies and leaf-blowers
I warrant they would have used them just as much as the horrid
European invaders - who after all were only following Manifest
Destiny. |
