43 El Dorado St. (1898) - Patrick Sullivan's Shoes
43 Post St. (2000) - Don Pedro's Fine Mexican Food

This was the address of Patrick Sullivan's boot and shoe repair shop. Patrick was the father of Leo Sullivan, noted San Jose musician, who penned a recollection of El Dorado St. - quoted extensively on this site.

Leo describes the changing fortunes of boot making:
"Dad was a boot maker of the old school, automation had caught up with him early. The Machine had reduced his trade to lowly cobbling."

"In the "Good Old Days" of the 1870's, he had 16 boot makers employed. Mornings found him in the Auzerais House, taking the measurements of miners for new boots. When made, the boots would be forwarded to the "Diggins" by stage coach."
