The term Lodging House was, more often than not, a euphemism for a house of ill repute - at least on this street - in 1898. The lodgers being dark damsels of the demimonde.

Less than a week after taking this photo, The Cozine Coffee House went out of business. Small business's in downtown San Jose have a rough go of it. Who will settle in next?
