Sands Motel I called and asked for the price of a "single." The answer: "I don't have one bed tonight, two beds $71.00." I left it at that. $71.00 seems a bit high . . . even for two beds. Called the next day to inquire about their advertised Tiki Lei Suite. As found out the Tiki is no more. Only a distant memory of lava, hula girls, and Polynesian decor. I knew a man who drank too many Navy Grogs one night at a Polynesian restaurant in 1969 . . . and ended up married seven months later. The neon "No" has been removed from the "No Vacancy" sign. At the side of the parking lot an ancient billboard exalts the Tiki Lei Suite. Very pleasant Indian accent on phone. |
