A beacon of relief nestles in among Christmas trees at the Plaza de Cesar Chavez (formerly City Plaza) across the street from the Fairmont Hotel. The comfort station is 12-foot by 7-foot in an oval shape.

One of twelve new pay-toilets in San Jose. An identical model is under construction on San Carlos across the street from the Main Library. A larger, industrial-strength version is nearing completion on 2nd Street.

The toilets cost $250,000.00 each, not counting installation. The city is actually leasing the toilets for $65,000.00 per toilet per year. If my math is right, that comes to $780,000.00 a year for 12 toilets.
