Ann and John Byrnes pose with friends at The Recreation. John built his cabin in 1903. John and Ann had their honeymoon here. Avid duck hunters, they enjoyed swimming as well. The sloughs were eminently swimmable up to the late 1920's.

Later, a porch and flagpole were added. Flagpoles were a standard item for most cabins. If you were home, you flew the American flag.
