Description

“I Meant to Say Please Pass the Sugar” is Truong Tran's solo exhibition of recent work. In this collection Tran features 9,000 butterflies as an ode to the 9,000 butterflies killed for Damien Hirst’s “In and Out of Love” exhibit at the Tate Modern. Tran explores loss and reconciliation but also themes of desire, cultural appropriation, and the political body. It probes how society views the body and the political implications that are embedded in our visual understanding of the images. In each of Tran’s meticulous and laborious creation there is celebration, condemnation, and provocation in equal measure.
