Tor House and Hawk Tower were built by Carmel poet Robinson Jeffers as a home and refuge for himself and his family, using granite boulders gathered from the shore of Carmel Bay. He sited the house on a point of land that meets the sea like the "prow and plunging cutwater" of a ship. The house was completed in 1919, and the Tower in 1924. Tor House and Hawk Tower are situated on Carmel Point at 26304 Ocean View Avenue, just to the south of Carmel Village. The structures face Scenic Road and are bounded by Stewart Way and Ocean View Avenue. There are docent-led tours of Tor House on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the year.
