About
If you've ever mused on the ultimate fate of humanity or been inspired by the megalithic ceremonial calendar-structure at Stonehenge, you'll feel a familiar twinge of recognition in The Long Now Museum & Store. At the home of The Long Now Foundation, you are invited to tour our museum space with one of our staff members and see the working prototypes of The Clock of The Long Now, a monument-in-the-works and physical embodiment of Long Now's mission to encourage long-term thinking and responsibility on the scale of 10,000 years. There are also displays on The Rosetta Project, a long-term catalog of human linguistic diversity that is attempting to stem the growing tide of language extinction. In the store we have books on topics such as technology, history, and cosmology, DVD's from our Seminars About Long-term Thinking, and unique time pieces such as ecological calendars and star-field calculators. Tourists and locals alike can find information, inspiration, gifts and memorabilia that we hope will encourage a proactive and thoughtful venture into the future.
If you are interested in viewing the space or you have any questions, drop by any day of the week or contact us at [email protected] or by phone at 415-561-6582.
Closed on the following public holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, and Fourth of July.
