Description
Stanford Lively Arts presents bass Nicholas Isherwood in "The Electric Voice," a unique program with premieres of contemporary music for voice and electronics inspired by Stockhausen's "Havona." Isherwood's "Electric Voice" program is centered around the U.S. premiere of Stockhausen's "Havona," which was written expressly for Isherwood just before the composer's death and premiered posthumously in 2009. The work, which is one section within a larger, multi-section composition, "Klang (Die 24 Stunden des Tages)," spurred Isherwood to build a program around "Havona." That piece is preceded by world premieres of works all composed in 2010. Of special note on the program is the inclusion of Stanford composer and faculty member Mark Applebaum. Additional composer/partners on the program include Jeffrey Stolet, Jean-Claude Risset, Enrico Cocco, Daniel Teruggi, and Robert H. P. Platz. "This program is the third edition of a project involving the bass voice and electronics," writes Isherwood. "The composers are all musicians I admire and respect. They conceive new life, and it is up to me to nurture it through years of performances before passing it on to the next generation. Keep your seat belts securely fastened, relax, and enjoy the flight."More Info
