Description: Terlipressin is a synthetic analog of vasopressin and is used as a vasoactive drug in the management of hypotension. It is a prodrug, which is converted to (Lys8)- vasopressin after removal of the N-terminal triglycine in vivo. Terlipressin has a longer duration of action and a better safety profile than the parent compound.
Application: Terlipressin has been used as a vasoactive drug in the management of low blood pressure. It also indicates to be used in norepinephrine-resistant septic shock and hepatorenal syndrome. In addition, it is used to treat bleeding esophageal varices.
