Description
The line-up for the SBGS' 25th anniversary concert is both bizarrely eclectic and perfectly fitting. Headlining is Bruce Davis, the "Citizen Songwriter" folkster who grew up around Pete Seeger and the Guthries, but found his muse in Ramblin' Jack Elliott. His tribute is as funny and sincere as it is terribly true: "Ramblin' Jack, Ramblin' Jack/A fella here wants his money back/He don’t know that ramblin's your act." Davis is also the executive director of Arts Council Silicon Valley. Backing him up is Jerry Snyder, the SBGS president who taught what may have been the first ever high-school guitar class, back in 1968 in San Jose. He's written countless instructional books for guitar, more than two dozen of which are still in use in schools. And yeah, he does get guitarists coming up to him all the time to tell him how he changed their lives. Also on the bill is Brian Holmes, whose program "The Amazing Physics of Guitar" gives some lurid psychosexual appeal to harmonics, although that title would be 10 times as awesome with an exclamation point after it. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.comMore Info
