Description

This Veterans Day, join musicians Nell Robinson, Jim Nunally, Keith Little, Joe Craven, and Andrew Conklin for Soldier Stories, a special concert benefiting veterans' healthcare projects. This evening of American roots/string band music reflects soldier stories from before the American Revolution to the current day. The show features a guest appearance by the Soldier Band (all veterans), as well as a display of historical photos and letters, and an art poster designed by artist Hannah Regier. The organization Disability Rights Advocates hosts a reception after the show in the Freight lobby. Come share an evening of engaging music while reflecting on our history with war.

Nell (Nell Robinson & Red Level), a vocalist, comes from a long line of veterans going back to the Revolutionary War and the Civil War. Jim (David Grisman Bluegrass Experience, John Reischman and the Jaybirds) is a guitarist, vocalist, composer, and a two-time Western Open Flatpicking and Master Picking Champion. Multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Keith Little has played with folks from David Grisman to Mac Martin to Peter Rowan. Musical madman Joe Craven (Jerry Garcia, the David Grisman Quintet, Maria Muldaur, Wake the Dead) is famed for playing anything, whether it's got strings attached or not. Andrew Conklin (Nell Robinson & Red Level) is a composer and multi-instrumentalist who plays with a wide variety of Bay Area groups.

Hundreds of thousands of veterans return from Iraq and Afghanistan with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, or major depression; 500 veterans every month end their own lives. Tonight's concert supports the important work of Disability Rights Advocates and their research, advocacy, and litigation on behalf of veterans. A non-profit based in Berkeley, DRA has the primary goal of pressuring the Veterans Administration to provide timely and quality healthcare to veterans, and to acknowledge and treat their injuries.
