Description
Even though this grooving duo utilizes only drums and guitar, their music won't leave you lacking. Leaders of the early '90s Bay Area acid jazz scene, guitarist Charlie Hunter and drummer Scott Amendola blazed new trails that led between jazz and funk, pop music and avant-garde soundscapes. In Charlie's seminal band, T J Kirk (the name says it all, referring to Thelonious Monk, James Brown, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk), they built a huge following of jazz aficionados who were eager to hear new sounds, extreme inventiveness, and no small amount of humor. The London Jazz Blog says of the duo, "Modestly, Hunter doesn't draw attention to his virtuosity. His technique is so finely honed that it is easy to overlook how extraordinarily his bass runs counter his simultaneous solos... Amendola laid into his conventional kit, confidently mixing restrained jazz invention with freewheeling power surges on cymbals, a lingering backbeat worthy of the late Richie Hayward or a JB Revue, and a gleeful urge to roll in hiccuping funk at any opportunity!"More Info
