Flat Out Crazy Restaurant Group, owners of the 18-unit Stir Crazy Fresh Asian Grill and 18-unit Flat Top Stir-Fry Grill restaurants located throughout the Midwest, East and South, is continuing its western expansion with the opening of its first SC Asian, a new restaurant concept premiering November 14th in Macy’s flagship department store in San Francisco. SC Asian is a fast casual/full service restaurant – a hybrid that offers the best of both models: a casual setting with food ordered and paid for by guests at the counter, then delivered to the table by servers who will take additional orders and payments tableside so that guests can relax and enjoy their meals. The opening of SC Asian brings the number of restaurants owned nationwide by parent company Flat Out Crazy to 37.

SC Asian will be located in The Marketplace food area on the lower level of Macy’s. The restaurant brings the best of a full service establishment including 4,600 sq. feet with thoughtfully-designed seating for 160, a full bar featuring 10 wine choices available by the bottle and glass as well as beer by the bottle or on tap. SC Asian will be the only restaurant in The Marketplace that serves liquor, beer and wine.

“Macy’s is one of the nation’s premier retailers and it’s San Francisco store encompasses an entire city block in Union Square, the heart of San Francisco’s vibrant and eclectic restaurant and shopping scene. Creating a new restaurant model for this highly-trafficked and discriminating dining area was an exciting task for us,” said Frederic H. Mayerson, chairman and CEO of Flat Out Crazy. “We carefully considered what residents and tourists alike would be drawn to and SC Asian is the sensational result.”

SC Asian’s menu will feature flavorful, quality food in individual serving portions that are also generous enough to be shared. Entrée price points will range from $8-$14, similarly found in other Flat Out Crazy restaurants. The menu begins with such full-service restaurant quality appetizers as Ahi Tuna Poke and Crab Cake Hand Rolls. Five different Asian Flatbreads made in the restaurant’s wood burning oven are a delicious choice as a meal or accompaniment; they include: roasted Asian mushroom with tomato chutney, curried chicken with cucumber chutney and more. Soups, Salads, Crazy Rice Bowls, Signature Noodles, Wok-Tossed Entrees, Crazy Baos (house steamed buns with choice of filling topped with pickled cucumbers and carrots), Bánh Mi Sandwiches (a traditional Vietnamese sandwich served on a crispy baguette) and Desserts round out the menu.

“As we looked for ways to thoughtfully expand the Flat Out Crazy brand of restaurants, Macy’s in San Francisco provided us with the perfect atmosphere for a full-service Asian restaurant experience in a fast casual atmosphere,” said Greg Carey, Flat Out Crazy president and COO. “We are proud to have combined the best of both worlds in SC Asian, and we know the Macy’s customer will appreciate this blend of quality and ease as they take a break during their shopping experience.”

SC Asian will create 75 new jobs at its new San Francisco Macy’s restaurant, located at 170 O’Farrell Street. The restaurant hours will mirror Macy’s hours, which is typically open most days from 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. but can vary on Sundays, sale days and holidays.

About SC Asian and Flat Out Crazy Restaurant Group

In the fall of 2011, its third and newest restaurant concept, SC Asian, debuts at Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco.
