Santa Cruz Weekly is a free weekly newspaper serving Santa Cruz County on California’s beautiful Monterey Bay, It distributes 25,000 copies at hundreds of locations throughout the Santa Cruz area, including business districts, tourist attractions in Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Capitola, Soquel, Aptos, Watsonville, San Lorenzo Valley and at the University of California–Santa Cruz.
Founded as Metro Santa Cruz in 1994 and renamed in 2008, Santa Cruz Weekly brings a unique voice to the region’s cultural, political and entertainment scene, providing comprehensive weekly listings, news reporting and arts criticism. The newspaper has won numerous state and national awards for excellence in such categories as investigative journalism, news, music coverage, food writing, film criticism and design.
Santa Cruz Weekly provides cost-effective print advertising and digital advertising services to Santa Cruz area businesses. Its partnership with leading portal SantaCruz.com gives businesses a way to advertise and reach customers in the Santa Cruz area, as well as tourists visiting the Central Coast.
Santa Cruz Weekly is affiliated with two other Bay Area alternative weeklies: Metro Silicon Valley and theNorth Bay Bohemian, distributed in Napa, Sonoma and Marin counties. The group is headed up by CEO Dan Pulcrano who attended UC Santa Cruz and began his newspaper career in Santa Cruz. The company is one of the few remaining owner-operated publications in the alternative press.
