Description
It may seem that 22-year-old Texan rising star Sahara Smith is a little young to be releasing a debut album shepherded by the great T-Bone Burnett. But really she's been performing on stage since the age of 14, so this album, Myth of the Heart, is a long time coming. She blends folk, Americana, country & bluegrass with the ease of Tom Waits, but does it with the gloss of Norah Jones. Her tender yet smokey vocals carry both her youth and her experience and professionalism within a single breathe. Burnett, who also managed to get many of his first call session players on this album, called her "the best new artist I've heard in years." She shares the bill with Marc Cohn, he of the hit "Walking in Memphis." - Aaron Cartier sanjose.com
