New Family Dog features veteran Colorado guitar player Jon “Blackdog” Ridnell and his son Miles on both acoustic and electric bass. The band functions has a repertoire of over 500 songs drawing from originals, funk, blues, bluegrass and jazz.
Based in the “musical mecca” of Nederland, Colorado, Blackdog is one of the hardest working musicians you will find, playing between 200-300 shows a year for over 20 years in venues across the United States. The number of renown musical acts Blackdog has performed and shared stages with is somewhat staggering and demonstrates his sheer musical prowess and versatility: Taj Mahal, Derek Trucks, Fred Wesley, Henry Butler, Sally van Meter, James Cotton, Duke Robillard, Phish, Leo Kottke, Spin Doctors, Adam Deutsche, and Adrian Legg, to name a few. This summer Blackdog was a featured special guest of Blues Traveler at their July 4th concert at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater and two weeks later performed at the Northwest String Summit in an all-star band featuring legendary fiddle player Daryl Anger and Dave Johnston of Yonder Mountain String Band.

Coelho & Ridnell is a unique collaboration of two musicians and composers - one Brazilian and one American. Chico Coelho and Dave Ridnell met in San Francisco in 2010 and have since performed regularly in venues around the San Francisco Bay Area, playing original music inspired by bossa nova, Música Popular Brasileira (MPB), and samba, as well as by American jazz, pop and R&B. In 2012 Coelho & Ridnell performed and recorded in Brazil. A musician as well as a respected world-class contemporary painter, Chico Coelho hails from the city of Piracicaba, Brazil. Performing for over three decades, Chico’s self-titled cd features some of the finest jazz musicians in Brazil, including Sizão Machado, longtime bass player for legendary Brazilian music star Djavan, and drummer Edu Ribeiro. New York native Dave Ridnell has been a bandleader and performed for over 20 years in venues throughout the United States, and has also played stages in Europe, Brazil and Japan. He has played live and recorded with members of such legendary funk acts as The Meters, James Brown, and Sly & the Family Stone, as well as with renown jazz artists including the late Melvin Sparks. Coelho & Ridnell’s first full-length CD, recorded at Baxter’s Ranch in Auburn, California with Grammy-winning producer Matt Baxter, will be released in late 2014. This CD will feature horn arrangements by 5 time Grammy nominee Wayne Wallace (trombone) and showcase a stellar lineup of highly respected Brazilian and American musicians, including Celso Alberti (drums – Flora Purim & Airto, Steve Winwood), Victor Little (electric bass – Booker T & the MGs, Robert Walter), Mary Fettig (Toninho Horta, San Francisco Symphony, Stan Kenton Orchestra) and Alex Calatayud (percussion). Coelho & Ridnell plan to perform again in Brazil in 2015.
