Photographer John Shaw Teaches How to Get and Optimize the Best Shots at Upcoming Bay Area Seminar

San Jose, California (1/29/11-1/30/11)–Joseph Van Os Photo Safaris presents a Nature & Digital Photography weekend seminar in the San Jose area with renowned photographer and digital photo expert John Shaw. The two-part seminar takes place over a weekend, with one full day devoted to nature photography and the second day covering the digital darkroom. The first day of the seminar, Saturday, January 29, is an all-day lecture presentation on obtaining the best quality photos with either film or digital cameras. Based on John’s extensive field photography techniques, this concentrated course covers a discussion of cameras and lenses; exposure and metering; the best tripods for field work; close up and macro techniques; adding flash for both main and fill light, and tips for capturing specific subjects such as birds, insects, flowers, landscapes, and wildlife.

The second day, Sunday, January 30th, is devoted to digital capture, culminating in using Adobe’s Lightroom and Photoshop to optimize images. Topics include file formats, storage and naming conventions; downloading and cataloging images; software recommendations; and computer equipment. Lightroom and Photoshop topics include RAW file conversion; color management; understanding histograms; using adjustment layers; making and using masks; creating panoramic images; and setting up your printer using the correct paper profiles. John will walk seminar attendees through his own digital workflow step-by-step, from capture to final file.
