Description
Not all gumshoes are world-weary, hard-bitten men; some are world-weary, hard-bitten women. Such is the case with Frankie Payne, a female detective working the mean streets of Boston in "No Good Deed." The Paul Braverman play, presented by Pear Avenue Theatre, focuses on Payne's investigation into an Irish gang war in the early 1960s. The year is 1962. Boston may be celebrating "Camelot", but under the surface, there's another, grittier world filled with greed, lust, and violence. That's Frankie Payne's world. She's a female private detective but, as one character notes, "Frankie Payne is no lady." Gin-soaked but not quite washed up, Frankie fights demons both inside and out to find redemption. Set in the midst of the Irish gang war, this stunning new play is told with a classic film noir feel.
