Parents Accused of Stealing from Schools

Two parents at Baldwin Elementary School are charged with embezzling $30,000 from funds raised to support the school. The money, raised from book fairs, a walkathon and other sources, was intended for school counselors and a handwriting programs for kindergarteners. They allegedly used it instead at Old Navy and for Netflix.

City staff is suggesting that the city adopt a new ordinance which would require a license to sell cigarettes, similar to the license store owners require to sell alcohol. The license would cost about $450. First however, they will have to overcome the opposition from cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris among others.
