French Agency Sues Google

The French Commission nationale de l’information et des libertes (CNIL), a privacy watchdog group, has sued Google for 100,000 euros for collecting personal data. The information was collected by Google’s roaming cars and bicycles between 2007 and 2010 as part of Street View. The information was collected from local Wi-Fi networks and stored on Google’s servers.

Doug McNea, 64, of San Jose, died while attending the Republican State Convention in Sacramento. A local stalwart of Republican politics, McNea, the head of the Silicon Valley Taxpayers Association, was a five-time candidate for public office in the South Bay, most recently in 2010. In his personal life, he was a Navy vet and nuclear power consultant.
