To see alt-rock sensations Neon Trees live is downright confusing. On stage, they look like the second coming of the Clash - a head-on collision of art and punk. And then they'll play...Hall and Oates' "Adult Education?" Trippy. They had a huge hit on modern-rock radio with "Animal," but it took a while before I figured out that underneath the punk posturing, their strength is actually their soul influences. Which is why I prefer their cover of Justin Bieber's "Baby," which they combined with "Stand By Me," resulting in possibly the best doo-wop I've ever seen delivered by a guy with a Mohawk. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
