Description
Photographer Jean-Dominique Burton sensitively portrays a traditional emperor, chieftains, ministers and earthpriests from Burkina Faso, a landlocked West African country whose name means "land of honest people." Burton and his team traversed 3600 miles in this little known land, meeting leaders and capturing their charism and nobility in silver gelatin prints. This exhibition is scheduled to coincide with Vodoun/Vodounon Portraits of Initiates, an exhibition of Jean-Dominique Burton photographs taken in Benin the home of voodoo, an ancient Fon religion which has spread throughout the African Diaspora. Vodoun/Vodounon Portraits of Initiates opens on October 13, 2010 at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University.
