Welcome to Martinez Chiropractic!

"Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do" John Wooden

Dr. Bell’s goal is to help people come back from injuries as soon as possible so that they can do the things they love, and teach them how to prevent the problem from returning. He uses in his treatments chiropractic adjustments, Active Release Technique (muscle work combined with stretching), and rehabilitation.

Dr. Bell graduated from Logan College of Chiropractic with his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree as well as a Masters in Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Dr. Bell has had advanced training in treating muscle and joint injuries, sports injuries, TMJ, and musculoskeletal pains in pregnancy.

Chiropractic

In chiropractic, we examine the spine and other joints in the body to find joints that have become restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Rehabilitation

Rehabilitative exercises will be prescribed when we identify a muscle imbalance or weakness somewhere in the body. Our goal will be to personalize a rehabilitation program specifically for you which is designed to progress. As you progress through this rehabilitation program you should notice that you will be able to move and perform activities with less chance of the injury recurring. Many of us have muscles which are “turned off” or inhibited, while other muscles are being over worked. During this process your muscles which are “turned off” will be activated and strengthened thus improving your overall muscular coordination and movement patterns. Our rehab techniques come from leaders in both chiropractic and physical therapy professions.

Manual Therapy
Manual therapy involves milder forms of manipulation called “mobilization”, as well as a combination of stretching, myofascial release techniques, and Active Release Techniques (ART).

Massage
Our massage therapists will find the affected muscles involved in a patients injury and relieve spasms and tight muscles through deep tissue and other massage techniques that will vary depending on the needs of the patient. The massage therapists and the chiropractor collaborate to discuss ideal treatment protocols and specific muscles or tissues that may need extra attention.

Non-Surgical Decompression

Decompression therapy is used to treat disc bulges or herniations, severe arthritis, or other musculoskeletal complaints that may not respond to typical treatments. Non-surgical decompression is a non-invasive treatment that provides gentle decompression of the disc through the use of a special table. You are strapped to the table so that as it moves it applies a distraction force to the targeted area of the spine (the compressed disc). A computer controls the distraction force which is applied in between periods of relaxation. This gently pulls apart the spine which creates a ‘vacuum effect’ within the disc allowing it to heal. Decompression therapy works in minute increments which overtime allows the disc to retract back to its normal position.

Therapeutic Modalities

Moist heat- Moist heat will penetrate deep into the tissues to relax muscles that are tight and is best before treatments to loosen muscles and joints.
Electrical stimulation- This modality is used by placing 4 pads surrounding an affected area and will lightly contract and relax the muscles with the ultimate goal of relaxing the muscles and tissues. It can be used with heat or ice for best results depending on the condition.
Cold laser- Laser is used to increase healing at a cellular level and can be used for most conditions but works especially well with ligament and cartilage injuries(ankles, knees, TMJ), and carpal tunnel.
Ultrasound- Ultrasound works best in reducing chronic inflammation that will be present in chronic injuries.
Ice- Ice is great to reduce inflammation for new injuries or any other inflammatory conditions.
