Description

One of the weirdest copyright fights in Internet history went down a few years ago when a choreographer named Ric Silver started sending takedown notices to YouTube users who had posted videos of themselves doing the line dance called the "Electric Slide." Silver claimed he had a copyright on the dance, which led to him being sued by the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Eventually, Electric Slide democracy was restored. But lost in the craziness was the fact that no one would have ever given a damn about the Electric Slide in the first place if it wasn't for reggae queen Marcia Griffiths, who had a hit with "Electric Boogie" twice, in 1976 and 1989, that turned it into a dance craze around the world. It was the biggest hit by a female reggae singer ever, proving that Bob Marley was onto something when he chose Griffiths for his backing band. Apparently, the guy knew a thing or two about reggae. - Steve Palopoli sanjose.com
