Description

Many Lenses – Diverse Perspectives will be installed at Avenue 25 Gallery in San Mateo, showcasing the work of former and present students from the photography program at College of San Mateo and from members of the Friends of Filoli in Woodside. This diverse collection of images demonstrates unique perspective through personal expression. The photographs celebrate many points of view.

The opening reception is on November 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Avenue 25 Gallery located at 32 W. 25th Avenue, San Mateo. The public is invited. Gallery hours 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Among the photographs are landscapes taken with a panoramic camera from 94-year old John Chan, a former student who attended CSM in the 70s. Current CSM student and member of Filoli’s Art Committee, Jerry Barrack, communicates his visualization of landscapes with images of Mono Lake and Yosemite.

Kathleen Podolsky creates her photographic constructs by printing several copies of an image, cutting out sections, coloring the edges and molding them into shape – then stacking them on top of each other to create a 3-dimensional image.

A popular SX 70 film in the 70s, where original altered Polaroids could be produced to make visually eye-catching and strong quality prints, was used by Mike Franzoia to make negatives that he scanned and developed to make his images.

Becky Ruppel says “I've been a sports spectator and participant most of my life. For me, team sports represent grace, speed, focus and energy. It is the interaction of the players with their coaches, at the high school level, in both baseball and football; that I enjoy portraying in my images. The experience of being part of a team and the successes and failures the players achieve may be the best part of their high school experience.”
