Santos's mastery of all Afro-Latin percussion instruments will be on full display with repertoire specifically prepared by him to showcase the intimate blending of Latin American and North American musical idioms, highlighted by rarely-performed original music that will tempt you out of your seat. A seven-time Grammy nominee, Santos is widely regarded as one of the foremost exponents of Afro-Latin music in the world today, known for his innovative use of traditional forms and instruments in combination with contemporary music. He has earned much respect and recognition as a prolific performer, composer, teacher, writer, radio programmer, and record/event producer whose career has spanned four decades. John has performed and/or recorded with acknowledged, multi-generational masters such as Cachao, Dizzy Gillespie, Tito Puente, Bebo Valdés, Max Roach, and Eddie Palmieri. John is also widely respected as one of the top writers, teachers and historians in the field and was a member of the Latin Jazz Advisory Committee of the Smithsonian Institution.
