About
[KONTROL] is proud to bring the finest in minimal techno and forward-thinking house music to the Bay Area every month, with an emphasis on live performances.
The event was conceived and initiated by Midwest transplant Greg Bird, who in 2005 surveyed with disbelief SF's nearly non-existent techno landscape and decided to take matters into his own hands. After calls to few talented DJ friends who were fellow enthusiasts of "weird minimal German shit", a night at Blasthaus' Rx Gallery was secured, and [KONTROL] was born. When our first event, featuring a virtually unknown live act from Switzerland, sold out the venue before midnight, we had an inkling we were onto something.
After a few lineup changes and outgrowing it's original art gallery digs in just over a year, the event moved to the world famous Endup in late 2006 with its current roster of resident DJs: Sammy D, Alland Byallo, Craig Kuna, and Nikola Baytala. Together as a team we've worked hard to bring the world's best to San Francisco every month, whether it's established veterans of the sound, or up and coming artists who we feel the world should know about.
Past guests include Daniel Bell, The Wighnomy Brothers, Thomas Fehlmann, Radio Slave, Isolée, Speedy J, Akufen, Sammy Dee, Alex Smoke, Modeselektor, Baby Ford, John Tejada, Cassy, Audion, Martin Landsky, Stewart Walker, Claude VonStroke, Guy Gerber, Pan Pot, Bruno Pronsato, Troy Pierce, Dan Curtin, Guillaume and the Coutu Dumounts, Sety, Efdemin, Samim, Triple R, Alex Under, Josh Wink, Pier Bucci, Seth Troxler, Paco Osuna, Marcell Dettmann, Dixon, and countless others.
Today, nearly five years in, many would argue [KONTROL] was the catalyst for what has become somewhat of a dance music revolution in the Bay Area. Once a stronghold of West Coast deep house, today San Francisco is recognized worldwide as having one of the best Minimal/Techno/Tech-House scenes in North America. We couldn't have done it without each and every one of you!
