We'd heard a lot about Kokkari, the fine dining Aegean restaurant down on Jackson Square, but we weren't prepared for how absolutely amazing it is. The cavernous space is warm, cozy, and rife with burning hearths, rustic wood furniture, plush olive/khaki upholstery, and elaborate flora. Request Cristo as your server; he led us through our evening like a seasoned (cruise) ship captain. You can have your baby octopus charcoal grilled with frisee and Greek peppers ($14) or braised in tomato red wine sauce with feta ($10), but don't miss the best grilled lamb chops ($26) in the city. Sweet Jesus. Follow with a perfect yogurt sorbet and tangerine mint granita ($8), and it's straight to bed with you, especially if you take a tour of the Greek wines on the mostly domestic list.
