Description

Raised by two evangelical pastors in Santa Barbara, Katy Hudson left high school and released a Christian gospel album in 2001. When it flopped, she decided to go the pop route and changed her name to Katy Perry so as not to be confused with actress Kate Hudson. Perry quickly proved she's not the typical California Gurl, with her ability to write (or at least co-write) hit song after hit song, starting with "I Kissed A Girl" in 2008. Her most recent album, Teenage Dream, was one of nine albums in history to produce four or more number ones on the Hot 100, which ultimately led to her crowning as the first musician in history to spend an entire year on the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. Meanwhile, she's dabbling in Hollywood, putting her sugary sweet speaking voice (quite different than the husky tone she's known for in her songs) to use as Smurfette in the new Smurfs movie, and delivering a hilarious cameo as a naive, unassuming girl on the comedy series How I Met Your Mother.
