In the mid-1990s, 2 young San Franciscans, Kawika Alfiche and Ulysses Kia`i Maurille, dreamt about opening their first coffee house - today that dream has become a reality. Joined with partners, JR Tarape, Kimo Rosenbaum, Ryan David, Mit Kamana`o Maurille & Artemis C. Maurille, Kaleo Cafe was born on June 6, 2000 when our doors opened at 1340 Irving Street in the Sunset district.

"Kaleo" in Hawaiian roughly translates to a "saying or expression"; or, as two separate words, "ka" "leo", literally means "the voice." To us, a deeper meaning of Kaleo, is the exchange of "leo" (voice) with close friends and family. The aloha spirit (warmth of the people) and relaxing ambience makes Kaleo Cafe the perfect place for such gatherings. Kaleo offers a friendly and relaxing atmosphere with great coffees from here and from the Islands, a well selected lunch menu, and an array of mouth-watering desserts.

Mahalo!
