Description
In his first solo exhibition at the gallery, Jack Fulton will be showing a selection of recent recent images from 2008 - 2010 entitled "Now in Then", images that reference the poetics and the politics of the artist's oeuvre.Fulton explains: "What I do today can easily be seen in work done at the beginning of my career. So the 'now' in my work is cradled in the bosom of the 'then'. As I have aged, it is not that I have become more philosophical, but I have at all times throughout my life loved simple beauty and throughout that same life have seen it diminished greatly in Nature, my primary spiritual source."
Jack Fulton is a three-time NEA grant recipient. His photographs are in the collections of numerous institutions including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Bibliotheque Nationale - Paris, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Art Institute of Chicago. One of the founders of SF Camerawork, Fulton has taught photography at the San Francisco Art Institute since 1969.
For over 15 years, an important focus of the art at Togonon Gallery has been Bay Area art and artists. This exhibition reiterates the gallery's commitment to the visual culture in the Bay Area.
