Haymarket brings a big city sensibility to little Willow Glen with an eclectic menu, communal seating and an appealing list of wine and beer. Proprietor Joe Circone works with whatever his four local growers have at the time, so the menu is ever-changing. Highlights includes beef marrow bones, duck meatloaf and the banh mi sandwiches.

La Villa hardly needs an introduction, but for those who don’t know, it has everything one might want in a Italian deli: big sandwiches, fresh ravioli, fancy olive oils and other specialty grocery items. Customers can take La Villa’s famous fresh raviolis home and cook them themselves or get them prepared at the deli (the bread bowl is hard to beat). Brave diners with a serious appetite might try the Death Sandwich. It’s two pounds of meatballs on garlic bread slathered with red sauce.

Opa! packs a lot of life into its tiny Lincoln Avenue storefront. The restaurant serves moder takes on Greek classics. The Opa! fries with feta cheese and Opa! sauce are not to be missed. In what seems to be the trend with other popular Willow Glen eateries, Opa! has expanded to other locations in the South Bay including Campbell, Los Gatos and Los Altos.

The frozen yogurt is good, but the real draw is the frozen custard, an ultra rich take on soft serve ice cream. The shop stocks a variety of toppings and flavors change regularly, including some offbeat options. Willow Glen Frozen Yogurt has been known to stock pumpkin, toasted almond, eggnog and boysenberry yogurt, to name a few.

This is the mothership of one of Silicon Valley’s best pizza franchises. Opened way back in 1991, Willow Street has since expanded to Los Gatos and Westgate Mall. They started offering their popular thin crust pizza in 2008 and gluten free pizza more recently.

At Aqui, diners can order at the counter and seat themselves, but good luck finding a spot on a Friday or Saturday night, especially at the bar. While the Calmex heaving menu is definitely worth checking out (try the goat cheese quesadilla), the other major draw at Aqui is its swirls: blended Mararita’s with various flavors. They certainly pack a wallop, yet go down smooth.

A bit out of the way of downtown Willow Glen, this vegan pizza restaurant is worth checking out. While the idea of all vegan pizza might sound suspicious at first, one bite proves that just because it’s made out of plants doesn’t mean it can’t be delicious. The texture is a bit different from other pizza, for obvious reasons, but the novel ingredients allow for a wider range of flavors, from the tangy vegan BBQ to the salty vegan Greek pizza.
