Description
A series of juried projects including new visual art, publicintervention, performance, and media in search of physical, personal,
social, political, and creative ground.
Intersection for the Arts and Southern Exposure present GROUNDED?, a
juried series of events and programs. Intersection teams up with SoEx
for their 16th Annual Entry Fee-Free Juried Exhibition of works by
Northern California artists. This year's program includes the 7th
Annual Film/Video Screening and new additions the 1st Annual Public
Art/Urban Interventions Day and a 5-week curated Performance Series
from Intersection's Hybrid Project.
These two old friends and new neighbors - SoEx's new location at 417
14th Street is a mere 300 yards from Intersection - are joining forces
to build community and maintain a strong arts presence in San
Francisco's Mission District. With the same commitment to providing
space for innovative, experimental, and risk-taking art in a
non-profit, alternative venue, it was collectively decided to choose
GROUNDED? as the theme for the multi-faceted event. What does it mean
to be grounded and what does the journey in search of grounding look
like? We have invited artists to submit work that responds to this
idea in some way, shape or form. Through their combined efforts, SoEx
and Intersection will present the work of close to 300 artists, in a
range of disciplines far broader than they would have been able to
present individually.
The annual juried exhibition has become the premiere showcase of
cutting-edge contemporary artwork by promising local talent. Unlike
many juried shows that charge a submission fee, this juried exhibition
does not require artists to pay to enter their work. A prestigious
international curator is chosen to select work for the exhibition,
offering a unique opportunity for Northern California artists to have
their work viewed by a respected curator from outside the local
region. For many of the artists selected, this is their first major
exhibition and an important step in advancing their career.
