Description
The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition (SFBC) is launching "Gas-Free Fridays", a campaign to encourage more people to substitute one short car trip with a bicycle trip every Friday during October. With half of all driving trips under two miles in length--it's really easy to go by bike. These short trips don't allow pollution control devices in cars to warm up and operate effectively, which means these short city trips actually cause more pollution. In San Francisco 50% of greenhouse gas emissions come from the transportation sector, so going by bike makes environmental sense.
And going by bike on Fridays means stopping by an SFBC energizer station to "fuel up" on free fair-trade certified coffee, tea, and snacks. See http://www.sfbike.org/chain for energizer station dates and locations.
