I help individuals and couples solve problems of living, improve mood, and increase confidence and peace of mind. My style is non-judgmental and practical, and combines solid, creative thinking with emotional and intuitive sensitivity. Many clients tell me that they feel comfortable with me, making it easier to explore difficult personal issues.

Specialties

Individual Psychotherapy for a variety of general practiceissues, including life transitions, depression, stress management, andrelationship concerns, such as trouble finding or keeping relationships; coping with injury, illness, grief and loss, aging, geriatric psychotherapy;self-discovery and actualization; spiritual and religious concerns (if requested).

Couples Therapy and Marriage Therapy.  Addressing trust, commitment, betrayal, communication, conflict, money issues, repeating destructive patterns; balancing dependence and independence; mutual support through stress,parenting, illness, trauma; grappling with the mystery of romantic love, including difficulty experiencing or expressing passion.

Spiritual and Religious Concerns. Helping you connect psychologically with your personal spirituality or religious sense, regardless of religion or spiritual affiliation. I value your deeply-held beliefs and faith, as well as your skepticism. I don't advocate for any religion and only address spiritual or religious concerns if you bring them to therapy.

Overcoming Writer's Block or Creative Block. Psychotherapy and coaching for people who seek to express themselves through writing or other creative work, including professionals, artists, college and graduate students.

I adjust my method to your needs. Modalities may

- Talk therapy
- Reviewing your self-talk to help you see whether your inner dialog matches your experience, so you can decide if that inner voice helps you or holds you back. This work is also known as cognitive restructuring
- Personal log or diary
- Expressive drawing and journal writing
- Dreamwork: Focusing on what your dreams mean to you, a powerful guide to one's deeper yearnings and conflicted desires, and help for overcoming fears revealed in dreams

Integrative Theoretical Orientation

- Includes Jungian, solution-focused brief therapy, cognitive therapy, social learning theory, transpersonal psychology
- Object relations/psychodynamic, in other words, understanding how one’s experience as a child helps mold relationships with self, others, the lifeworld

Office Policies

First office visit is offered at no charge, following telephone discussion to see if your needs are within my areas of specialty. This offer excludes writing/research coaching for students. Appointments before 5 p.m. are available on a sliding-fee scale. Please contact me for details. If within scope of practice, I work with people who have achieved long-term stability on psychiatric medication. Insurance reimbursement may be possible as an out-of-network provider.
