About

Galeria Tonantzin, a gallery of women's contemporary art, directed by artists, Jennifer Colby, PhD and Janet Martinez, is named for the Mexican corn goddess Tonantzin whose characteristics were transferred to the Virgin of Guadalupe. It is run through the volunteer efforts of all affiliate artists without which this gallery wouldn't have been available for women artists since its inception in 1992.

The 800 sq. ft. a dobe is a great venue for women's art. San Juan Bautista is a unique historical town, situated inland from the Monterey Bay on the San Andreas Fault. It is a spiritual center for Native Americans, a California Mission town, a center for antiques and art sold in historical buildings that line Third Street and the home of El Teatro Campesino.

Our Gallery is located right next to Jardines Mexican Restaurant with an excellent view of their garden from our Garden Gallery.
