MENLO PARK, Calif. -- Frances Freyberg Photography Presents “Sacred Places of the World” at the Mercy Center Gallery.
The exhibit includes photographs from across the Middle East, Asia, Europe and South America. Highlights include colorful temples of Japan, Hong Kong and South-East Asia; domes of different shapes and sizes, from the Taj Mahal in Agra, India, to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Tallinn, Estonia, to the Mir-i-Arab Madrassa in Bukhara, Uzbekistan; and atmospheric ruins, from Tintern Abbey in Wales to the Bayon in Angkor Wat, Cambodia. A selection of close-up images portray intricate carvings, tile work, stained glass and mosaics from Islamic and Christian sites around the world.
The exhibit’s 22 pictures are arranged to highlight the visual similarities and contrasts in the architecture and design of these sites from different locations and faith traditions.
Frances Freyberg of Menlo Park specializes in portraits of people, wildlife, nature and architecture from her worldwide travels. She spent 2008 traveling around the world and building an extensive educational weblog with photos and commentary: http://www.wheresfrances.blogspot.com.
