Extinction Burst is a dance installation that brings to life the grace and formidability of species who are now surrendered to time; Structured along the lines of an old school break-up album it is designed to fire up the analytic, sympathetic, empathetic and occasionally even the comic synapses of both adults and children (sometimes at the same time) .

The cast of five performers will also provide a memory-filled musical soundtrack—one that explores the alternating giddy and moody moods that come when relationships start thinking about calling it a day—as they move through the expanse of the California Academy of Sciences, reanimating extinct creatures such as the Great Auk, Thylacine and Passenger Pigeon. Created by award-winning choreographer, Academy of Sciences Artist in Residence and former ODC Theater Artist in Residence Chris Black, with an original score by Erik Pearson. Commissioned by ODC Theater.

Focus your eyes into the magnifying glass, through time and space, as you enter the peculiar world of insects. Somei Yoshino Taiko Ensemble (SYTE), the internationally acclaimed taiko company presents its newest full length work entitled Time Cocoon.

Never afraid to push the boundaries in the taiko drumming world, SYTE brings its signature style of performance to Time Cocoon - dissecting the complex and sometimes bizarre microcosm of distinct cycles of birth, death and transformation. SYTE’s original musical compositions feature Japanese taiko, shamisen, bamboo flute and a wide palette of world instruments.
