encuentro in Spanish is a date, a meeting, or an encounter. And what could be a better place to meet with friends or just getaway with a partner than Encuentro? What's the appeal?  Is it the warehouses, swerving in between semis or maybe just the attraction of Jack London Square? Not any of those.  But, there is charm in this part of Oakland that surprisingly reminds me of SOMA 20 years ago.  And Encuentro stands out as a true gem. You'll be amazed at the flavor of each dish and it's all vegetarian!  

When I visited for a recent lunch, my partner and I had a great time.  From the service, to the Cava... to the starters...

* Stuffed Dates with Delice de Valle or Macadamia Nut Pate (v) red wine syrup
* Uncle Eddie's Wild Hen Devilled Eggs
* Cheese Crisps

to the main course...

* Soup of the day -- Split pea soup
* Farro and Smoked Goat Cheddar Salad

to the desert...

* A pear cake served with a dab of crème_fraîche

it was a perfect lunch.  The food was superb and the tab was a reasonable $55 -$60.  My only regret was not taking BART so that I could have drunk more Cava.   Oh well, there's always next time.

Location: Conveniently located ¼ block from the Oakland Amtrak station, a short walk from the Lake Merritt BART station and just a few blocks from highways, 880/980/580 makes encuentro a great place to grab a drink, have a light meal or take something delicious, organic and healthy to enjoy at home.
