Description
Emily Roysdon is an artist and writer based in New York and Stockholm, Sweden. Her working method is interdisciplinary and recent projects take the form of performance, photographic installations, print making, text, video, curating and collaborating. She has developed a theory of "ecstatic resistance" to describe the role of the impossible and imaginary in politics. Roysdon completed the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in 2001 and an Interdisciplinary MFA at UCLA in 2006. In 2008, she was a resident at the International Artists Studio Program (IASPIS) in Stockholm. Roysdon's work has been shown recently at the 2010 Whitney Biennial; Greater New York, MOMA PS1; Younger than Jesus, New Museum of Contemporary Art; and the Bucharest Biennial 4. Her videos have been screened widely, most recently at the Berlinale International Film Festival, Berlin; and the Images Festival, Toronto. Her writings have been published in the Journal of Aesthetics and Protest, Zehar, C Magazine, and Women & Performance: a Journal of Feminist Theory. Roysdon is editor and co-founder of the queer feminist journal and artist collective, LTTR, and a contributing member of the band MEN. Upcoming shows include Manifesta 8, Murcia and Cartagena, Spain; a solo show at Konsthall C in Stockholm, and a MATRIX exhibition at the Berkeley Art Museum in December 2010.More Info
