NanHai Art is pleased to present Contemporary Ink, a group exhibition of contemporary Chinese ink painting featuring 16 new works by Li Huayi, Wang Tiande, Zheng Chongbin, and Lu Chuntao, curated by Kuiyi Shen, Professor of Asian Art History and Director of the Chinese Studies Program at UC San Diego.

Contemporary Ink will present four artists whose distinctive styles represent modern movements in the practice of traditional Chinese ink art. Regarded in China as one of the forms of “high art,” the works chosen for Contemporary Ink demonstrate the artists' mastery of the ancient medium while reinvigorating the form through innovative appropriation of concepts and styles. These 4 artists and their works exemplify how to creatively address the contemporaneity of ink art, transcending simple binaries of East and West, past and present, and ultimately offering a new paradigm for cultural identity in today’s globalized contemporary age.

Please join NanHai Art to celebrate the opening of Contemporary Ink at an Artists’ Talk on October 4th at 2pm, featuring curator Kuiyi Shen in conversation with artists Zheng Chongbin and Lu Chuntao in the upstairs lecture hall. Following the talk, an opening reception will begin at 3pm in the main exhibition hall.
