Description

Weeklong art making event November 7—14, with public art making day on Friday November 9.

As part of the Creative Growth Dialogues series, an ongoing collaboration hosting guest contemporary artists’ we are pleased to announce our upcoming, week long art making event and exhibition: The Collage Party with artist and curator Paul Butler.

The Collage Party is a nomadic experimental studio with a
constantly rotating group of artists, directed by Winnipeg artist and curator Paul Butler, since 1998. The project has traveled to London, Berlin, LA, New York City, Montreal, Vancouver, Oslo and now to Oakland, to work alongside Creative Growth artists with disabilities as well as a group of invited artists from Canada and the Bay Area.

The Collage Party event at Creative Growth Art Center will serve to connect Canadian and American artists as well as attempt to provide a “sanctuary” from the commercial art world, providing artists an opportunity to work outside the profession of art and take part in an intentional artist community which, appropriately has been part of the mission at Creative Growth since 1974.

This week long event will include the premiere of renowned Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin’s newest work, A Mixed Bag of Trippy Shorts, Friday, November 9, 7-10p. Participating artists include Michael Dumontier of The Royal Art Lodge, Creative Growth artists William Scott and Aurie Ramirez and Gerone Spruill. Invited local artists include Tauba Auerbach, Keith Boawdee, Kota Ezawa, Keegan McHargue, Julio Morales, Trisha Donnelly, Dave Muller and more. Art making will be open to the public on Friday, November 9, 11a-10p. Completed work will be on view during a public exhibition opening on Thursday, November 15, from 5-8pm.
